Beat Depression: One Moment at a Time

Beat Depression

Hey all, Crystal here!
I have been wanting to do a series on ways to overcome depression. I struggle with a recurring depression and I know how difficult it can be. But I do not like wallowing. I feel like I may have this thing that makes me sad some days. Although I do not have to let it
get me down.
One thing I do is journal. That may sound boring but hear me out. There are lots of ways to journal.
Junk Journal, Art Journal, Bullet Journal to name a few. I even use a Travelers notebook and the ways to accessorize them are so much fun!!!
So today let talk about Art Journaling. You can go big or small or somewhere in between, it’s just up to you. You may be thinking, But Crystal I can’t draw! Yeah you can. Trust me. You can. because this isn’t for a prize, or to show. It’s just for you. I’m not a Picasso or a Michelangelo by any means. But it makes me happy to color, paint or sketch.

I have a secret. I just look at other peoples stuff and go from there. I don’t trace it, but I look at it to make my own version.
So what do you need to get started? This is where I said go big or small. You can start with any piece of paper and colored pencils, markers, paint. Or you can go to a craft store and load up. They have blank art journals with mixed media paper or watercolor paper.. You can splurge like I finally did and get some Jane Davenport watercolors and water brush. It’s just whatever you prefer really.
get started and have fun!

I struggle with depression every day of my life and at times it robs me of my joy. Art sounds like a fun idea to escape every day issues. I have done journaling but it has been a while. Thank you for sharing this great idea

    • Girl, I’m right there with you. It does help me to escape, my problem is getting myself to actually do it. When I do, I feel better. I hope it helps you as well. Depression is such a serious issue these days (perhaps always). Sometimes I think it’s due in part to the fact that we aren’t all working like they did back in the day. They had to do everything without the conveniences, so perhaps they were able to work through some of their sadness. IDK. Just a thought. I hope you found something that helps you here, and if you ever just want to talk, hit me up on social media and we can connect. Sometimes it helps to have an outsider to vent to. Hugs to you, my friend.
