Peanut Butter Cookies & 52 Weeks of Cookies
I have an old recipe book from my childhood that is full of old, simple but delicious recipes. While they aren’t necessarily new foods, they frequently remind me of my being a little girl. This particular recipe book sat for years on my Mom’s bookshelf.
When I moved out, I went back home and gave it freedom from my Mom’s house, she never really used them and didn’t mind my procuring it. I write in it now: my modifications, when I used the recipes, and the reactions I get. If it’s a special occasion, I note that too.
I don’t know that anyone will ever care about my notes but they bring back good memories when I see my notes. I attempted to pass the tradition down and will continue to do so because with these times and everything being online it seems that little things like this may become obsolete.
This particular cookbook lost it’s covers long ago, so I can’t share the title. However, I can say that the original recipe was submitted by Debbie Salmon. I have modified it slightly. I hope you enjoy these cookies as I enjoyed making them as a girl.
Peanut Butter Cookies
Ingredients:
- 1 cup crunchy peanut butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 tsp baking powder
Directions:
- Combine all ingredients well.
- Roll into balls similar in size and lay on pan. Make a criss-crosss imprint on the ball with a fork to smash them down.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 350 degrees.
- Remove before they are too brown as they will brown a little more when you put them on wire racks to cool.
Are there any modifications you like in your peanut butter cookies?
I’d love to hear stories of childhood baking, they make my heart smile. Hope you enjoy.
To My Fellow Cookie Lovers:
Check Out 52 Weeks of Cookies by Maggie McCreath!
Thank you for the recipe and the book looks fantastic! Can’t wait to check it out!
I always allow my daughter to select a new cookie recipe each year! There was a strawberry cookie thumbprint cookie that I wish I had a recipe for. We keep trying new ones but it just isn’t the same LOL
Seems like I’ve seen a thumbprint recipe with strawberry in the center in one of my old boxes. I’ll go in search and maybe it will be the one. I have a ton of old cookbooks!
My son and I bake every Christmas, we always find new fun recipes to try out, last years new cookie was Shortbread, they were so good!
That is wonderful! If ya’ll love chocolate, check out our cookie recipes, the Chocolate Peppermint Cookies are fun to make, festive and absolutely delicious!
I loved attempting to make homemade cookies I used to make few ingredient peanut butter cookies. Have not made them in awhile because my last couple batches did not turn out perfect 🙁 Thank you
I totally get that! It’s frustrating when the batches don’t turn out right! The only challenge I’ve ever had with this recipe has been overcooking them as I tend to either walk away or forget that they will continue to cook for a bit after I remove them! Hopefully this recipe will be the one that turns out perfect for you every time!
My mom used to make candy cane cookies, they had crushed candy canes sprinkled on top of the cookies. I love making Snickerdoodles.
If they were chocolate, they may be similar to my Chocolate Peppermint Cookies. Those are absolutely fantastic if you love the 2 main ingredients!
This book looks great! I used to love baking cookies with my daughter (until she got to be a better baker than I am, and would just bake on her own). I still have very fond memories of one summer when I spent every day with my aunt & cousins (while my mom worked during the days). My aunt only had boys, so she & I spent a lot of time together in the kitchen with her teaching me. My favorite were always the toll house cookies!
That is an awesome memory! One of my regrets is that when my Monkey started being able to bake well, I stopped baking with her as much. If I could go back, I’d definitely do that more often!
my granny makes the best cookies! I love homemade oatmeal raisin! 😀
I think Grannies make the absolute best everything!
Who doesn’t like cookies!? I could definitely see baking a different king each week.
Right!?! I could also see myself gaining a ton of weight because I’m a child with little to no self restraint. haha
Homemade cookies sound so delicious right now! I haven’t made any in a long minute!
Homemade cookies are my diet kryptonite! I cannot be trusted!
I LOVE peanut butter cookies. The peanut butter kisses cookies during the holidays are my favorites. The recipe above looks really easy and the ingredients are all things I already have on hand.
They are definitely wonderful to have on hand! I love making cookie dough and freezing it so that I can have cookies whenever we want them.
My family never really baked growing up so I’m trying to start that tradition with my kids. We love to bake chocolate chip cookies.
That is so wonderful! The effort will neither be forgotten or lost I’m sure! Kudos to you for starting new traditions!
Your Peanut Butter Cookie recipe looks easy and yummy. I love making Chocolate Chip Cookies and Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. My daughter in Boston makes Madeleines twice a month and they do not last a day.
Thanks! I’m not typically a fan of raisins, but I do love all things chocolate (well, not like bugs covered in it and such lol). I’ve never heard of Madeleines, what are they?
I love homemade cookies. i always have a lot of dough on hand to store in the fridge so I can have a warm tray whenever I want. Last night I made chocolaye chips cookies with that new dove deeper dark chocolate.
Those sound fabulous! We love them as well! The only problem is that I have no resistance to cookie temptation!
I used to bake snowball cookies with my mom every year for the holidays. After she passed I still always make them for holiday parties. Last year may have been the first year in 10+ years not making them.
Snowball cookies are fabulous! I have a recipe for them too! 2020 truly sucked!
Kaycee, I have one of those old cookbooks as well. It was a gift way back when I was 18 years old. Like your book, my cover is mostly gone but I love that cookbook. Thank you for sharing and co-hosting at #omhgww.
That is wonderful Clearissa! There’s nothing like old cookbooks! Way better than the modern ones, I miss those and hate that the internet is making them obsolete!
My son loves a good PB cookie! Actually any cookie!
Thank you for hosting #omhgww
Have a great week!
Of course he does! Who doesn’t!?! Well, except those with allergies and strange taste buds. haha
Cookies are the best. There’s really a specific cookie craving that nothing else can satisfy.
Oh, that is so very true! Sometimes cookies are just what ya need!
This is close to my mother’s recipe that she gave me many years ago now. A cup of sugar, a cup of peanut butter and an egg & roll the balls in sugar then flatten with a fork. I love any kind of cookie but easy cookies just seem to taste better!
That’s awesome! It’s the one I made with my mom as a child. I love that it’s almost the same as yours! Seems like too many these days don’t have these recipes! Or maybe they are just ‘too easy’ or something. LOL
I have memories of me and my mother and grandmother in the kitchen baking cookies. I try to do these same things with my kids especially around holidays.
Those are the best! I love that you are continuing the tradition of baking with your grandbabies!
My Mom and I always made cookies together a xmas time. I loved to bake with her, she taught me a lot!
Chocolate chip and spritz were my favs.
I remember baking cookies with mine too. Miss those days!
Oh my goodness! I am a sucker for homemade cookies 🍪 and I love to bake!
haha! Me too! I can’t keep them around because I have zero self control when it comes to the sweet stuff!
My favorite kind of cookies is chocolate chip, cranberry cookies.
I have never had that combination it sounds good! I’ll definitely have to try it some time! Thanks for the fabulous idea!
I only have a few homemade cookie recipes that I make. I would love to add more! Chocolate chip cookies get boring after awhile.
I have a ton but for some reason I haven’t posted very many! (Blogger fail haha) Perhaps I’ll get on that one of these days!
Yummy cookies are always fun to bake and fill the house with aromas that just can’t be duplicated. I can’t think of a better way to bring the family together.
I absolutely agree! I always get annoyed with the ‘cookie scents’ because I know what homemade cookies smell like and they just can’t replicate that wonderful aroma!
My favorite cookies are jam thumbprint with walnuts! I make them for friends every Christmas.
Those sound fabulous! I’ve never done them with walnuts, only chocolate. Will definitely give it a try. Do you use a half or whole walnut?
cookies make me think of my grandmother and all the cookies she made for us love them and love making with her and eating the dough great memories love this book also
My absolute favorites are my memories with my Granny’s! So precious to me always.
I must keep this recipe. They are super easy to make with everything I have on hand in the pantry.
My daughter will love these.
I hope you and your family love them and baking them brings lots of wonderful memories! Their simplicity is one of my favorite things about them, well that and the taste and the smell!
I found this recipe years ago for easy to make peanut butter cookies. It quickly became a family fave.
I can see why! It’s so easy and doesn’t require a trip to the store!
I have been making cookies and sending them off to relatives for many years. I have a few relatives who always ask for certain kinds. Many times I have already made homemeade cookies in the freezer in case I need some for a last minute gift or treat.
That’s fabulous! Do you have any tips for shipping them? I’m always afraid they’ll get to their destination in crumbles!
Yummy, peanut butter cookies are my favorite! This recipe sounds classic and delicious. I love that it uses crunchy peanut butter. Thank you so much for sharing! 🙂
Our family loves cookies, especially homemade! We like the idea of variable amounts for each person’s chosen amount of calories.
That is a very convenient thing! Kudos to those that can keep themselves within their limits!
What a great easy recipe. My husband loves peanut butter and these sound like they are just up his alley as cookies are a treat to him.
So easy and they look delicious. Thanks for the recipe!
I have fond memories of my mom baking cookies when I was growing up. She made animal cookies. We had a set of animal cookie cutters.
That is both wonderful and awesome! My Mom made a bar she called ‘Hello Dollies.’ I never got the recipe and wish that I had. I don’t even know where she got it from!
