How To Make The Perfect Gift With NO Craft Skills
Everywhere we see custom made, perfectly awesome craft gifts. The Perfect Gift. Unfortunately, not everyone is crafty and not everyone has the time or necessary products to complete those projects. We are putting together a fantastic how-to for those of us in that category!
Picking out the perfect gift can be difficult to figure out. Even after 13 years of marriage (at the time of this original posting), I still have a hard time knowing just what to get my husband which is crazy because most of the time I’m spot on with gifts.
After we reached the point of if we wanted something we could just buy it, the challenge got even harder. Now, don’t get me twisted, we don’t have a lot of money we just don’t want ‘things’ like some do. We’re good with running our electronics until they explode and often don’t bother replacing them. We have cheap tastes and that is both a blessing (in that we don’t spend money much) and a curse (in the what to buy for each other area).
Not so Perfect Gift – Fail!
After a hard fail for a recent birthdaversary celebration (we celebrate a birthday and anniversary at the same time so we tagged it birthdaversary), I was reminded that I need to have some non-crafty ways to come up with a unique, perfect gift for my hubby. Then again, for everyone on my list as the nieces and nephews are quickly growing up and becoming a little harder to buy for!
No Skills Required DIY Gifts
DIY Hand Scrub: Don’t be appalled at this one. It’s literally mixing stuff and putting it in a jar. No talent needed. It does feel amazing on your hands though and most of the ingredients we all have laying around! It makes the perfect gift for any occasion! These jars are cute and they come with labels for the top of the jar, just fill them, add a little tag (folded piece of paper) and you are done!
Custom Canvas Prints: Anyone can easily have a favorite photograph put on canvas! It’s not as difficult as one might think. Having had one done at a local huge box store, I highly recommend doing it online rather than going in store. The quality is much better with a company that does them specifically! The photo on the left was one my husband absolutely loved and it brings us joy every time we see it.
Other Photo Gifts: On that note, let’s add in pretty much any other custom photo gift! We had a mug made for my husband and it’s his absolute favorite even though I messed up on it. Something to remember, when ordering a custom photo gift, just because you don’t put any text in the text box does not mean that the text box won’t be printed on your item!
With that note out there, the sky is the limit on what you can print on: mouse pads, calendars, pillows, blankets, magnets, playing cards, coasters, even puzzles! If your person is a crazy coffee lover, I do not recommend the 11 oz mug. It’s far too small! I have to have cream in my coffee and 11 oz at a time does not do it for me!
DIY ‘Insert Adjective Here’ Jar: If you click the link, you’ll see our DIY Love Jar, I wrote out I love you in every language I could find on little hearts and put them in a jar for my husband one year. You can modify that for any occasion, graduation, wedding inspiration, birthdays or whatever sentiment you want to get across. Just modify it with colors and a theme specific sticker or two on the label!
DIY Gift Pack: One fantastic way to make an awesome gift without much talent or effort is to make a gift pack aimed specifically at the recipient. We made a ‘Dad Pack’ one year for my husband and it was very well received. We stuffed it with a collection of single serving sizes of things he loved. There are packs there that would fit anyone on your list!
The Perfect Gift Requires the Perfect Card:
Print Your Own Cards: It’s super easy these days to print a custom card, you can add in personal jokes or sentiments that are special to you and the recipient. There are free templates that are pre-designed all over the place so you don’t have to pay anything out of pocket for a personal card.
Personal Note: If you don’t have the time, energy, resources, desire or whatever to make a card or buy one a hand written note is the most personal and sweetest way to go. You can tell them just how you feel and it will be the most special gift ever!
I’d love to hear any additional ideas you have below!
