Make Your Own Pirate Kit #NationalTalkLikeAPirateDay

I have been blessed with some awesome people in my life.  One of which is my very first niece.  I still remember the very first time I saw her and held her!  That beautiful baby stole my heart!  I will admit, I’ve told that story and/or thought about that moment so many times I feel like I must be somewhere close to 80 but that’s okay, it was great!

pirate-girls-diy-pirate-kitThis year the little beauty graduated high school this year and has started her first year in college.  (Could you guess I’m proud?) So, as her graduation gift, I promised to send care packages as long as she is in college.  Should she decide to go all the way to her doctorate my husband is gonna have to get a second job to support our boxes!  Especially since I keep wanting to go overboard on what I buy for them.  LOL.  Whatever, what the husband doesn’t know will not hurt him (unless he finds out, then I might! haha).  All jokes aside, Uncle is very proud as well and happy to share this ongoing graduation gift!

pirate-kitAll that being said, since National Talk Like a Pirate Day is September 19th, I decided that she needed a Pirate box.  Long John Silvers and Dunkin’ Donuts both have freebies if you come in and talk like a pirate and an even better freebie if you dress up!  With this in mind, I got to work researching and trying to find what I should make or put in her box.  She has a love for Johnny Depp so a few of them are related.  I thought I’d share the links and pictures with you.  Hope you enjoy!

To Make the Hook

To make the hook, take a plastic cup (like you get from takeout) and spray paint it black.  While it’s drying, cut the shape of a hook out of cardboard leaving a longish piece at the bottom to fold in to help it keep from coming out (plus this way you can hold on to it with your fingers).  Wrap the cardboard in tin foil.  Cut a small slit into the end of the cup and insert your hook, folding the extra inside to one side.  Commence with piracy!

To Make the Sash

Cut a piece of cloth about 8-12 inches wide and long enough to wrap around and still have plenty to hang down.  You don’t have to sew it or anything, it’s supposed to look rough!  Tie around your waist so that there is plenty hanging down!

I’d love to hear yer thoughts, adventures or anything about Pirates!

#BabyBaby! A book for Bébé! Sponsored by #FlyBy

#BabyBaby! #Win A book for Bébé! US/CAN Ends 9/29 Sponsored by @CraftyZoo & #FlyBy What an adorable little read this is to share with baby!  Studies have shown that the more we read to and talk to our little ones, the better their verbal understanding and larger their vocabulary will be.  As pretty much every Christian knows, scripture says “If you lead a child on the path which he should go, when he is old he will not stray from it” Proverbs 22:6.  That being said, my favorite line in the whole book is at the end when a mirror reflects baby’s precious face and you read, ‘Who does God love? God loves _____’.  The space is there so that you can write baby’s name in, of course, but I think I’ll leave it blank so that one day we can pass it on.  It also shares a scripture at the very end of the book, one that we would all be good to remember!  I love that it’s there at the end of the book so that we can add that into our teaching the little ones and even get a new scripture memorized for ourselves!

Here’s what the publisher has to say:

A sweet, colorful board book that appeals to a baby’s interest in looking at other babies

Babies enjoy books, looking at other babies, and their own flowering abilities. This short rhyming poem combines all three in a sweet and happy way, while introducing babies to God’s love for them. The simple words are paired with colorful images of babies engaging in familiar activities, allowing the book to be used as an introductory concept book as well. And it ends with a reminder that Baby is always loved by God.

Bergamont: The Sad Oil Sponsored By #NewYorkBiology

bergamont-the-sad-oil-sponsored-by-newyorkbiologySo after looking around, I didn’t find too many uses for bergamont.  Seems it’s mostly used for it’s smell, which makes sense.  However, it is used for depression, anxiety, seasonal affective disorder and general sadness.  So Bergamont oil is officially my ‘sad oil’.  LOL.  I’m stoked to use this when the winter blues come to fill my house with it’s yummy citrus smell!  Thanks to #NewYorkBiology for giving me this oil to try out!

I found these uses as well:

Can protect against head lice and other skin bugs, treat psoriasis, help fungal infections, anxiety, helps with vitiligo, relaxation, snoring

Inside Out Stuffed Poblanos

yummy-inside-out-stuffed-poblanos

One of my awesome readers mentioned they’d like to see more recipes that weren’t chicken, so I thought I’d share this one!  With Autumn quickly upon us, this recipe is just perfect for those cool evenings and the flavor is fabulous!  I found that Poblanos were far too delicate for me to make stuffed peppers with them, but this turned out amazingly well!

Printable on the bottom of this post.

Ingredients

  • 5 Poblano Peppers
  • 2 c Chopped Onions
  • 2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 c cooked brown rice
  • 1 c corn
  • 1 can tomatoes
  • 1 Tbsp cumin
  • 1/4 c Lime juice
  • cheese, if desired
  1. Line cookie sheet with foil. Broil peppers for 6 minutes, turn over and broil 6 more minutes.
  2. Sauté onion with garlic, set aside.
  3. Cook ground turkey, drain.
  4. In a food processor or blender, combine ½ of onion mixture, tomatoes, cumin and lime juice. Blend until smooth.
  5. In a large bowl, mix 1 ½ c rice, ½ onions, gr beef, corn and part of the tomato mixture. Mix in some cheese if desired.
  6. Spray baking dish with non-stick spray, slice and seed peppers then spread them across the bottom of the pan.
  7. Spread meat mixture across peppers, top with tomato mixture.
  8. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

*if you’d like to add cheese on top, add it about 4 minutes before the peppers are done.

Sensitive Skin Blend

1 drop Chamomile essential oil

1 drop Jasmine OR Rose essential oil

1 drop Chamomile OR Helichrysum essential oil

1 drop Jasmine OR Rose essential oil

1 drop Patchouli OR Sandalwood essential oil

Directions

  1. Grind the oats to a very fine powder in a clean coffee grinder.
  2. Whisk together the oil, aloe vera and honey in a small bowl until completely combined.
  3. Slowly add the clay and oat powder a little at a time, stirring thoroughly to create a spreadable paste. (If you add it all at once you get lumps.) If the mixture seems too thick, add a little more yogurt or milk. Do not increase the oil, because the mask will slide right off your face.
  4. Stir in the essential oils.
  5. Cleanse your face and leave it damp, then smooth the homemade face mask over your face and neck, avoiding your eyes and mouth.
  6. Leave it on your face for 15 to 20 minutes (Relax! Lying down is good.)
  7. Wash the homemade facial mask off using a warm, wet washcloth.
