So, in my house we eat a LOT of fresh strawberries and I HATE throwing things away, so the containers remained long after the strawberries were consumed… All summer I’ve been putting them away until I had my brilliant use for them. The other night it hit me: use them to store snacks for lunches!!! Yay Me!!! Some additional things I made for the containers were some with cookies, pretzels, and I’m adding mini muffins. We put them in the freezer, and at the beginning of each week Monkey will pick out five snacks to put in her lunches. This way, we don’t have to buy chips and I can sneak in some nutrition!!! *Evil Laugh*
This mixture is whole wheat cheerios, pretzels, raisins and sprinkled some sugar cinnamon mix on . Mixed and divided into baggies. Yummy!!!
This mix is strawberry wheaties, chex cereal, raisins, and pretzels. I didn’t add sugar or anything to this one since the wheaties had a strong strawberry flavor.
Ideas for Snack Packs
- Chex Mix
- Dried Fruit
- Fruit and Nut Mix
- Mini Muffins, 3 per bag
- Grapes (gotta have an insulated lunch sack for this one!)
- Apple slices (put a little lemon juice on them to keep them from browning)
- Mini Cupcakes (I’d stick with two for these!
- Cookies/Brownies (if you are like me and can’t make small cookies, use the sandwich bags!)
