My Time-Out

Brunch at Bittersweet CafeTaking time for oneself is so difficult these days.  Especially if you work at home, are a stay at home parent, or have a disability that seems to lock you in your own home. If you suffer from depression, or have recently been kicked in the face, it gets even harder!

Having one of those days sent me out on my own.  I’d had enough. So, I escaped. It drove me and my book to Red Lobster.  All alone.  It was magical.  It not only lifted my spirits, but it gave me a comfortable place to escape into my book (Brunch at Bittersweet Cafe), and it gave me what I needed to keep going.  This day, I needed just this type of thing.

I will admit that the young waitress didn’t quite get that an adult woman could bring her work and book into a restaurant and actually eat a meal alone.  Poor young thing, so much to learn.  No worries, I honestly didn’t care.  Something about being at the bottom of the barrel that truly allows one to not worry about what others thing.

Brunch at Bittersweet Cafe

Brunch at Bittersweet Cafe MothersDay #GiveawayBrunch at Bittersweet Cafe was the perfect escape. It’s an absolutely delightful read and was definitely good to cuddle up with on the couch with my Sleep Zzz Pillow!  It took me a few days (I was distracted and hadn’t yet taken my time-out) to fall in love with it, truly because I couldn’t focus, but once hooked I was in love with Melody, our main character in this ‘Supper Club Novel.’

Melody Johansson is a pastry chef and baker. She’s pretty great at positive thinking but after years of living in her new town, she’s finding herself stuck. Her career is at a sad stand still, her love life is a bust. This is not where she saw her life going. So, when a stunning gentleman gets blown into her life, she decides to take a chance.  After all, he’s sweet, good-looking and seems to be perfect!

I very much enjoyed the writing style of Carla Laureano.  Reading the book description, one expects the fall, romance, resistance, romance cycle.  If you read enough, you can almost begin predicting how the books are going to go.  They literally have a writing formula for romance authors to follow.  However, Carla Laureano managed to mix it up just enough to through even this seasoned reader off! She also made sure I couldn’t walk away from the book!

Personally, the ‘Baker World’ has never interested me.  However, this one sucked me right in and even helped me find joy in cooking again.  I feel like it takes a great author to not only bring you into their world but bring their characters into yours as well!

Brunch at Bittersweet Cafe is definitely a read to add to your list!  It’s characters are well written and quickly find a place in your heart! I found myself feeling the same doubts, hopes, fears and excitement as the characters along their journey!
