Medicine Bottle Uses: New Ways for Old Bottles

Medicine bottle empty? Hate throwing them away? We’ve got a list and add to it from time to time.

Hello People…Let’s see…  End of the year….  We’re all thinking or hearing people talk about the lies we tell ourselves at the end of each year….My usual:

  • Lose weight…  I know, original…
  • Get organized…  Don’t even get me started….
  • Be more patient….  stupid list takes forever!….  LOL
  • Yep…  that’s all I can remember from years past….

Medicine Bottle Uses: New Ways To Use Old Bottles

What I can say, is I never kept them so I stopped trying!  LOL.  But, I did come up with some nifty little uses for re-using medicine bottles and thought I would share, just in case you are bored, needed an idea, or can actually keep your New Year’s Resolutions!
I have about a million bottles…. well….  at least it seems that way sometimes!  Thanks to my narcolepsy my bottle collection keeps growing.  I can’t seem to just throw them away, it seems so wasteful!  So, I wash them and find uses!  Not all of them are pictured, but here is the use list so far.

Medicine Bottle Uses:

New Ways To Use Old Bottles

Medicine Bottle Uses: New Ways To Use Old Bottles
  1. Paper clips, one for small one for big!
  2. Christmas ornament hooks!
  3. pencil erasers
  4. those pesky thumb tacks
  5. nails & screws: each size=different bottle
  6. birthday candles
  7. buttons
  8. glitter
  9. beads
  10. sequins
  11. Emergency Sewing Kit: a needle, thread, safety pin and extra buttons. I like to make sure I have the thread cut and ready for threading so I don’t have to carry scissors. Then again, I also always have a pocket knife with me.
  12. Pins: if you glue a magnet on the inside of the lid, you can easily pick them up if they spirll
  13. Key hider: glue an inconspicuous rock to the top of the bottle and lightly bury it so that you’ll always have a key if you get locked out.
  14. Essential Oil Mixes: We use a lot of essential oils and the bottles give us a space to mix our oils up and store them so that we have them ready when the kids get sick!
  15. Use one as a measuring ‘cup’ for your homemade laundry detergent. I have mine marked so that I know just where to fill it to every time.
  16. Travel shampoo/conditioner: You can add your favorite shampoo or conditioner in for easy and free travel packs! Just try a little water first and flip it to ensure that your particular bottle is leak proof.
  17. Small toys: remember pogs back in the day? Medicine bottles would have been perfect for them! Of course, those aren’t really the in thing anymore. You can use old medicine bottles for the older kids to put in their tiny little toys
  18. Hot shots: If you do a daily shot of apple cider vinegar or some other concoction, an old medicine bottle is perfect to set yourself up a few days in advance so you can save time in the morning and prevent that ‘I forgot/didn’t have time’ excuse!

Great idea segment for meds’ bottles. I hate throwing them away as well. Some uses…keep a batch for loose coin change…one each for nickels, dimes, etc. etc. Another thing, I use the bottle as a base for small floral decorations for the tree…Add a ribbon or wire for a hanger. I put a tiny piece of floral foam inside the base portion of the bottle and then add dry or silk florals. Gets your creative mojo going. Great little gifts as well. I am now a follower of your blog and look forward to return visits.
Hugs, Gayle.

I do crafts with my students where they have to think of things that could go in them and then they have to decorate them any way they want. I supply them with all kinds of decorative items, glue, labels, etc. Something so simple can be so much fun for them. They’ve got their parents saving them also.

Nice one! I got a bunch of med bottles here, too. I also turned them to mini storage bottles for my scrapbook stuffs. Some I put a few of my immediate meds on my bed side and put some labels on them. Of the many important things in the world medicine would be one of which my dear health needs, so I made a point to create my old med bottles into cute storage on my bedside.

Clever idea, you haven’t forget the 3 R’s (reduce, reuse and recycle). Plastics are everywhere, we should know how to reuse them wisely

Very crafty! There are a lot of great things that you can still use, just be innovative, be resourceful. Just reuse and recycle.

Your post just have me a great idea for another reusable item. I am diabetic and test my blood with test strips that come in little plastic containers with a number lid. I can use them to make ornaments for different holidays. Thank you for your inspirational thoughts.

With this little bit of creativeness, you have simplified decorating a medicine container into an exclusive and inexpensive art item to beautify your house.

What do you do with your old medicine bottles? I use them as a container for my ink because I love painting. I usually buy paint in large sizes to save money you can transfer some paint to these small containers.

I am fond designing empty bottles, and coating them with colored sands. I use these empty medicine bottles on the colored sands. Comes very handy especially since they are transparent.

Recycle your medicine glass bottles into pieces of art for your table or make use of them as a homemade gift. Try reshaping the bottles by cutting and sanding them or leave them whole for an outside masterpiece. This post really help me in creating artful recycled collections.

You really have a creative mind. I thought you can just throw away the medicine bottle if it’s already empty. I never thought it’s still useful just like the way you did. Now, the medicine is not only helpful but as well as the bottle. Great Post!

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is great blog. An excellent read. I will certainly be back.

Seeds…left over ones and those harvested in the fall. flavored sugars in the bigger bottles..I place a rosemary sprig for example and fill with sugar. Use it in tea or sprinkle on scones, or cookies.

Did you mention papercrafting supplies like brads and riboon snippets? I have also used the bottles and caps as templates! lol…

I have filled the larger ones with water, froze them to and se as icce packs in the coolers.

Great ideas! I have a few left over after cleaning out my medicine bag. I will have to see if hubby can use them for storing nails or other small items in the utility room.
