Difference Between Surviving & Getting Through #everymilemattered #flyby

The Nichole Nordeman may be my anthem for a while.  A great reminder, one which literally sings a reminder that while things may not be fabulous, we are making it.  I don’t know if I am in a place for all of her music to speak to me, but Every Mile Mattered by Nichole Nordeman is just the album for where I am right at this moment.  A bit of inspiration, without any message being thrown in my face, just a selection of songs that remind us to go on, that we aren’t doing terribly.  To be honest, I can’t listen to prosperity Christian music anymore.  If you think God won’t allow us to carry more than we can bare, you’ve clearly been very lucky because I promise you, He will.  One might argue that I’ve gotten through, or am getting through, but those people don’t know the difference between surviving and living.  As a survivor, I carry more than I can bare each and every day, pulling me down to the depths of sorrow by things I didn’t even know were there.  Yet I go on, usually at something resembling an army crawl, because I have no choice.  He gave me more than I could bare, I don’t know what He has in store next but I’m still breathing.

I definitely recommend checking out Nichole Nordeman, especially if you are like me and are drowning under the burden.  We have to do whatever we can to keep moving, giving up is not an option.

Ora’s Gold Thoughts & Giveaway

I’ve read many books that I didn’t want to put down.  It was like I had to read them through as fast as I could, as if I had to live in the book or else face my mortality.  Ora’s Gold was the first book I’ve ever read that I felt like was a treasure that I had to ration out, knowing that it would end and I couldn’t just run right through it.  I wanted to savor each page without distraction, without losing anything by reading with speed.  When I read, I was gone.  Lost in a world painted so clearly by Charlotte Young that I felt both detached from my real world and desperate to help in hers.

Charlotte Young was able to paint a world so clearly that it seemed real, so that when I was not reading I was thinking of the problems of the world, only the problems I was thinking about weren’t the real world.  Without giving a spoiler, I’ll simply say that I had to help somehow, which obviously is impossible since it’s not a real world.  Many authors are unable to accomplish this level of reality in their story telling and I appreciate the talent of Ms. Young.

More often than not, book endings tend to leave me feeling like something is incomplete or lacking in some way.  The ending to Ora’s Gold left me feeling as if a chapter was closed.  It was not necessarily negative, I could go back anytime to that world but I didn’t feel like injustice had taken place or I’d been left hanging like I do many times when I read.  Honestly, it’s difficult to explain the way it made me feel.

Obviously, I greatly recommend Ora’s Gold.  I’m looking forward to reading more books by Charlotte Young and while in the past I almost never re-read anything, I’ll be revisiting Ora’s Gold.

About the Book

Australia is ruled by the SIF. The Special Investigation Force
controls everything. Water, food, fuel … women’s bodies.
18-year-old Ora has never questioned their authority; everyone knows
it’s all for the ‘safety of the nation’. But Ora’s decision to
move in with her aunt is a bad one. She’s just landed herself in the
middle of nowhere with a deluded activist who wants to change the
world, one illegal birth at a time. Sooner or later someone is going
to die and Ora doesn’t know where to turn.
The beach is her only sanctuary and it’s here that she meets Jake,
thoughtful and experienced, who encourages her to live a little. So
why is it that as soon as she starts to have some fun, everything goes
dangerously wrong?

GIR Ultimate Spatula Review

GIRSPATULA_2If you bake, you know the importance of a good spatula!  Nothing drives me crazier than when I accidentally break one while I’m cooking or not to be able to mix because the spatula is too weak!  With the holidays just over, I’ve thoroughly broken in my beautiful pink GIF spatula and it has survived!  This, ladies and gentlemen, is a testament to it’s durability and lasting power!  The last spatula only lasted a few recipes!  To be honest, I once broke a cast iron skillet so there is not anything I can’t manage to break!  I have to say, the last spatula was purchased at a restaurant supply store, so I expected it to survive me…  boy was I wrong!  This one has done great!  It bends a little so it doesn’t snap when I’m mixing tough doughs and it works perfectly for all other baking!  I even use it to make meatloaf!  No more dirty fingers!  Yay!  For whatever reason, that texture has began to bother me so I love that I can trust my new GIR Ultimate Spatula to mix things thoroughly without my having to stick my hands in nasty ground meat!

If you have a kitchen and use it from time to time, you’ll want this spatula!  There is a reason tools are so important: they last!  Get yours now, you won’t regret it!  I have come to realize we very often get what we pay for.  There is a reason that we can buy things extremely cheaply, it’s because when they break we say ‘well, it was only _ dollars’ (usually being $1-$5 for that lovely excuse) but let’s be honest with ourselves, if we break a new one every month or so, that adds up.  This spatula is sturdy and meant to last for years.  I foresee this being in my kitchen for a very long time!  You can get yours here!

From the Company

– Food safe silicone
– Eco friendly Manufacturing
– Dishwasher Safe
– Heat proof to 464°F
– Heat resistant to 550°F
– Lab tested to decomposition at 986°F

464°F is a very conservative estimate for the GIR spatula’s temperature rating. In fact, the spatula will perform admirably at temperatures higher than that — the food-safe silicone we use is not readily combustible, and does not melt or drip. It may discolor around 550-570°F or so, with prolonged exposure.

POE Image
My thoughts…  I can honestly say that I enjoyed the documentary.  It sought to prove or disprove, rather than to simply believe what the Word says.  I love that we have made discoveries that make this endeavor possible and was fascinated by the findings and theories of the various archeologists and the way that the video was put together.  In my opinion, it was a great documentary.  Factual, interesting and thorough.  If you are curious at all, or would simply just like to have a little more knowledge, you should take the time to watch this film.  It would definitely be a great conversation piece!
About Patterns of Evidence Exodus:
For more than 50 years, the vast majority of the world’s most prominent archaeologists and historians have proclaimed that there is no hard evidence to support the Exodus story found in the Bible.  In fact, they say that the archaeological record is completely opposed to the Bible’s account.  This view of extreme skepticism has spread from academia to the world.  The case against the Exodus appears to be so strong that even some religious leaders are labeling this ancient account as historical fiction.  Filmmaker Timothy Mahoney begins with the questions, “Is the Bible just a myth, or did the archaeologists get it wrong?”  He decides to tackle this issue wit a deliberate scientific approach.   After examining the details in the biblical text, he journeys across the globe to search for patterns of evidence firsthand.  The result is the most in-depth archaeological investigation into the Exodus from Egypt ever captured on film.   This scientific documentary’s goal is to communicate the TRUTH of the Bible and help equip believers with defending their faith and the Bible.
The DVD features stunning animations and a cast including narrator, Kevin Sorbo (God’s Not Dead, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys), interviews with leading archaeologists including Israel Finkelstein, Kent Weeks, and David Rohl, and guest appearances by Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu and Shimon Peres.

Grizzly Trade

Grizzly TradeA comfy spot will not do you justice with this action packed book full of twists and turns.  I promise you’ll be on the edge of your seat with this great Alaskan adventure!  Needless to say, I loved The Grizzly Trade!  It was such a great read!  It did cause a little issue with my husband, as he had problems with my inability to put the book down and focus on what he was trying to tell me….  for days.  LOL.  No worries though, he got over being mad and I got to finish my book!

I have to say, even his author bio is written in such a way that I was interested, and I’ll admit that I normally just skip right over those.  I know, I’m terrible.  While Grizzly Trade is not a title or amongst a genre I would normally read, I was super thankful that I read it!  It was unpredictable, exciting and fresh.  I even learned a little about Alaskan wild life!  Even if you don’t normally read these types of books, let me assure you that it is so well written you will be too riveted to put it down.

About the Book

GRIZZLY TRADE is a novel set in Alaska that goes beyond the old Jack London themes. Sliding seamlessly between pathos and humor, GRIZZLY TRADE is a raucous romp through the Alaskan wilderness.

A taciturn Vietnam vet named Red just wants to be left alone in his Alaskan retreat, but when he starts to find dead bears in the forest with their paws hacked off, he is forced to wage war once more, and this time he intends to win. Tim Branson is a gregarious small-town reporter, looking for a news story that sizzles.  Despite their differences, Red and Branson are forced to become allies when a methamphetamine addict and an unemployed lumberjack start selling bear gallbladders and paws on the Asian aphrodisiac market.

While trying to track down the poachers, Red and Branson discover toxic chemicals dumped on the pristine salmon fishing grounds.  Accusations fly and the entire town takes sides.  Tim’s job and Red’s sanity are at stake as they try to find the connection between the bear killings and the environmental disaster.

About the Author

profile-1Dale Brandenburger wanted to become a novelist after studying journalism at University of Maryland, but he realized he hadn’t experienced anything worth writing about, so, in 1982, he moved to Alaska. He began working for the Alaska Dept. of Fish & Game in 1984. At the urging of his boss, he earned a degree in environmental science from Sheldon Jackson College and became a fisheries biologist. He excelled at his new career and writing took a back seat, although he always kept a journal and collected stories. Thirty years later, he found he had enough material for 10 novels, but he didn’t want to re-hash the Jack London theme of man struggling against nature. He wanted to write a fast-paced character-driven novel that included a touch of pathos along with the sense of humor that is so much a part of the Alaskan spirit. GRIZZLY TRADE is his first novel. Dale Brandenburger lives in Juneau, Alaska, and is currently working on his second novel.

PainMaster: Pain Relief on the Spot

When I was a kid, I played with my two older cousins.  They were boys and they were tough.  They treated me like I was a weak little girl, so I was on a mission to prove them wrong.  Thus began my beginnings of being super rough on my body.  I’ve done some crazy things, walked half a mile on a fractured ankle, climbed up the sides of cliffs with my lead rope, been thrown from and dragged by horses, and so much more.  I was constantly hurting myself.  Tough girl, see, I was tough.

Now I’m grown and realize that perhaps I wasn’t so tough after all. I have hip, back, wrist, ankle and knee pain.  Good times.  Of course, I’m only 30 right now so they don’t hurt constantly yet but when they get aggravated, they make me pay.  I don’t take anything for the pain, as I know it is only going to get worse.  I’d prefer to kill my kidneys and liver when I’m too old to care about keeping them.  At the moment, I deal.  Honestly, I can handle it until it makes me mad, then it becomes unbearable.  The pain that makes me mad is the pain that either keeps me awake at night or stops me from doing what I want to do.  My wrist, for example, recently kept me from typing or doing any crafts.  Of course it’s my right wrist and I am right handed because that’s what happens when you think your body is tougher than it is!

Before I was contacted about a review, I had seen the Painmaster on various websites.  I was in the middle of severe wrist pain, which of course hinders everything I do, and I had kept it in a wrap for weeks with no improvement.  It was actually to the point that I was beginning to take aspirin for it every now and then.  That may not be much to you, but I do all I can not to take medicine of any kind.  If it’s not medically necessary, I am not in favor of taking it.

I will admit I was skeptical.  It’s an extremely small device, I wondered how efficient it would actually be.  I saw no negative effects and the pain was getting rough so I decided to give it a shot, even though it doesn’t specifically say it’s for use on your wrist.  I figured the premise was the same regardless of where the injured part was.  Besides, I had nothing to lose!  So, I put on my wrist the Painmaster per the directions and wore it for about 4 days.  It wasn’t long until the pain had been minimized and was almost gone.  Granted, my injuries go pretty deep so it will never be completely gone but the amount of pain that was left was negligible.  I barely notice it.

The PainMaster uses Micro Current Therapy to provide relief in one spot.  It is re-useable for up to 250 hours.  The only downside that I find is that it only comes with one set of patches.  With only one set, they have already started to be less sticky.  Of course, that could be due to the fact that I had it on my wrist where it is curved.  Perhaps it wouldn’t be the case if I had it on a flat surface like my back.  Regardless, the lasting power of the sticky stuff on the patches isn’t all that great.  I have a feeling the battery will far outlast the patch, which of course will make it useless.  Another thing I disliked was that it took at least 24 hours or more before I noticed a difference.  However, one can’t argue that after that period the pain was a lot milder.  All in all, I think the PainMaster is a great product.  It definitely made a difference on my wrist!

From The Company

Micro Current Therapy, commonly referred to as MENs (Micro current Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulation), begins with small, pulsating currents of electricity. These currents are finely tuned to the level of the normal electrical exchanges which take place at the body’s cellular level. Being biologically compatible with the body these micro currents can penetrate the cell to bring pain relief.

You won’t feel any physical sensations when you use the Micro Therapy Pro™ unit. You will know that the Micro Therapy Pro™ is working when the red indicator light on the patch is lit which tells you that the microcurrent is flowing through the affected tissue from one patch to the other.

Inflamed cells resist the body’s natural electrical current, reducing the supply of blood, oxygen and vital nutrients to the cell. The Micro Therapy Pro™ microcurrent technology penetrates inflamed cells bringing direct pain relief.

Since I was a little girl I have loved Michael Landon JR as an actor.  I am greatly enjoying his work as a director as well!  Movies with true content are rare these days and I’m glad to say I’m starting to see a few more of them!  So many movies these days are filled with trash or just don’t have a good story, it is wonderful to say that this one isn’t plagued with that issue!  I hope you’ll take the time to see it, you won’t regret it!

Cera Wireless Speakers 20% Discount & Review

IMG_4733I’m sitting here writing this post while listening to the Cera Audio Wireless Speaker and I must say, it is now essential to my electronic necessities!  I’m not real certain how I ever listened to any of my devices without it!  I can frequently be seen walking from room to room with it, not because I can’t hear it in different rooms, but because it’s my personal ‘surround sound.’  LOL.  Oddly, my family is so use to my quirkiness that they don’t even say anything about how silly I look when I’m carrying around a tablet and speaker throughout the house.  LOL.

CERA Wireless Speakers come in 3 colors: black, white, and red.  They are compatible with most bluetooth devices and can also be plugged in via usb and line in jacks.  We’ve been using it with my tablet and our Android smart phones (both are Samsung, not that it matters).  It takes 2-3 hours to charge and you get 6-8 hours of play time!  I got two, because I’m so addicted I need to rotate them while the other is charging (it takes a whole 2 hours, but still!).  LOL.  Plus, you can link the speakers together and multiply the sound!  I took 2 out that were linked while working in the yard and put the speakers by a koi pond, which was blasting out the noise of not one but TWO very loud fountains, and could hear it clearly from across the yard (about half an acre) and could have probably heard it from even further, but the privacy fence halted me.  LOL.
