The Flirtation Experiment: Getting Flirty, Magic, Love in Your Marriage

The Flirtation Experiment is a heartfelt, love filled book about putting magic, mystery and spark {back, maybe?} into your everyday marriage.

Raw & Real: We Need The Flirtation Experiment

While I don’t know what marriage is like at 20, 25, 30 or more years. I do know what it’s like at (almost) fifteen years. Ours is probably not a typical marriage, though I’m certain it’s not unique. We’ve shared a lot of loss and damage. Made plenty of mistakes and nearly destroyed each other, not to mention our marriage. We’ve lost our only baby, delved into all kinds of unhealthy behaviors. Lost my mother, his grandfather, our adopted daughter moved away and brought even more pain (though in all fairness, she was the first of all of those losses).

Hardest Hits We Could Give

During all of this, we fought and hurt each other. We did all we could to destroy ourselves. I can only say that I am grateful that God is our foundation and, especially, our protector. At times, I know that God was the only thing that held us at all. We are on a healing journey, breaking the bad habits of how we treated each other, taking down the walls we built between us and learning to be raw and vulnerable with each other in a way we never have been. There is a lot to heal, plenty of room for growth. It’s painstaking and exhausting. And, most of all, worth every single second.

Small steps, tough steps, one day at a time is too much, we do one moment at a time. Or, at least, we’re trying to learn that.

Now to The Book: The Flirtation Experiment!

The Flirtation Experiment is about getting the spark, the flirtation that is so easily left in the past back into the marriage. The beginning of the introduction to The Flirtation Experiment speaks of how the author, Phylicia Masonheimer, was watching a series of Hallmark movies (made me think of the ridiculous amounts of Hallmark movies I watch- and love- during every Christmas season) and she recognized that the magic and spark, even mystery, of flirtation had faded in her marriage. After only five years.

It goes on to talk about marriage and sexuality in the Bible. If you study enough, you’ll find that General Hospital has nothing on the Bible! Twilight doesn’t even touch it and it’s written by a psychologist to make it’s imprint! There’s some juicy stuff in there, though you are gonna have to read The Good Book to find it on your own. Of course, if you read The Flirtation Experiment, you will get hints of where to find those sordid, good parts.
