Language is Fun: Adventure with The Mighty Silent e!

Language is Fun is a series of books published by Familius Books and we’ll be reviewing ‘The Mighty Silent e!’. What a great tool for our children! Familius has so many books that are fantastic for families, especially children! We’ve reviewed far too many to leave a list of them all, but you can see all of our children’s books on our Books & Films Page. I try to add them there each time a new one is reviewed.Language is Fun: Silent Vowels and 'The Mighty Silent e!'

Learning to Read

This book is just perfect! It made me smile as I read all the way through. This book is absolutely perfect for our little ones learning to read! I cannot stress that enough! It not only does it teach the value of ‘The Mighty Silent e’ but also has a lesson that is a little deeper than language itself. The story, though perhaps unintentionally, teaches that everyone has value and can be a hero. From an adult who had self esteem issues as a child, this is truly loved. As I was reading, all I could think was how much I had to send it to my grandson! Absolutely have to! He’ll be starting pre-k soon and once he begins learning how to read his letters this will be the surprise Nonna sends to him!

From an educational standpoint, the book is perfect. The little story teaches the value of the silent ‘e’ in such a way that is entertaining so that little ones can learn without getting bored through the book. Though I highly recommend doing the voices while reading. That’s just more fun!

This book, along with others in the Language is Fun series was written by Kimberlee Gard and illustrated by Sandie Sonke (with the silent ‘e’!). They did a wonderful job, in my humble opinion!

Description from Amazon:

Little e is sure he could be a hero—he even has the cape to prove it! But at school, he is so quiet, he just doesn’t stand out. That is, until one day when Little e doesn’t show up to class. The other letters don’t even notice he’s gone at first, but when c, a, and k try to form a word for dessert, they realize that no matter what they do, they can’t make it work. The whole class is in an uproar! Without their silent friend, what are they going to do? Will Little e finally get his chance to come to the rescue?

With adorable illustrations, The Mighty Silent e teaches spelling and vowel sounds in a new, exciting way that is sure to engage even the most stubborn reader. This Book was Provided By Familius

Kaycee

Hi all! My name is Kaycee. I am now learning to navigate life as a single woman. Turns out, it's not all about husband and children. Who knew? So, I'm on a journey of self discovery. I have 5 children, 3 of which are married, 5 2 are in Heaven (my beautiful baby Acadia Reign and my Diva Princess Tara Elizabeth), and 7 grandchildren! Plus, a ton of fabulous nieces and nephews! My educational background is in Psychology and Child Development but my heart is in ministry, crafts, fun, reviews and my website, My Crafty Zoo. Or at least it was, now I'm learning who I really am, beneath all of the busy family life. It's an adventure to be sure. I look forward to continuing to share my life through word and pictures with you and love hearing your feedback! Thank you for taking the time to read and allowing me to share! I look forward to reading your comments!

I think that the book is important because the silent “e” is one language concept that is extremely hard to grasp for young students and people from other lands just learning English.

If a book can help teach a child to read and at the same time show them that they are much needed in the lives of others because in us all is a hero waiting to come out, and with a book that can do this I see ” The Mighty Silent e ! ” being the next must have books in all households that have little ones that are on the verge of wanting to learn how to read and more!

If a book can deliver on helping our children learn to read or whatever it might be that they are trying to learn and at the same time teach them something else while unaware of this to them until they are able to finish the book and then see that they not only learned how to read but that they also learned that they are special and needed just like everybody else is also needed and special that are around them and this just might make “The Mighty Silent e” the new must learn to read book to make it’s way into many kids lives from here on out.
