Exhale by Plumb

Plumb

Exhale is an interesting album with great production!  I chose to do this review after listening to part of the music online and thinking it sounded great.  That being said, I think you should check her out and decide for yourself.  It’s very difficult to write a review when you didn’t necessarily love the product.  I hate being ‘mean’ but I also will not be dishonest as God demands it and I feel I owe it to you, my readers.  Unfortunately I feel like the artist’s voice lacked the depth and feeling one has when pouring out their soul to God in song.

The lyrics of the song were beautiful and well written but when sang, it seemed like there was little to no feeling.  I can’t imagine singing such beautiful words, meaning them, and still sounding like I am singing about something mundane.  I feel like God is all encompassing and if I am singing for him, it is my heart pouring out.  That always entails strong emotions.  I honestly felt like there is more emotion manifested in Disney songs than on this album.

If you are a fan of contemporary Christian music, you may hear this and think my opinion is wrong.  I hope so, as this music is supposed to be a touching tribute to God and to help the listener feel His presence.  I am never opposed to that wonderful feeling when God pops ya upside the head and goes ‘hear that? remember how I love you always?’  Perhaps it would be a different description for you, that may be the country Southern girl coming out in me.  LOL.

Regardless, check her music out and give it a shot.  I’d love to hear your opinion after you listen to a song or two.  I’m always up for other perspectives!

About PLUMB:

Tiffany Arbuckle Lee, better-known by her stage name Plumb, is a songwriter, recording artist, performer and author. Plumb has sold more than 500,000 albums and over two million singles worldwide, co-penned songs for numerous other artists, including Michelle Branch, Mandisa, Mandy Moore, Jaci Velasquez, and Natalie Grant, and had music placed in many films and television shows.Originally signed as a Christian Contemporary Music (CCM) recording artist in 1997, Plumb is now known as well as or better in alternative rock, electronic dance music, and for the use of her music in film and television than she is in the CCM market.

About the album:
EXHALE, the seventh studio album from acclaimed multi-genre singer, songwriter and author PLUMB, expresses a new focus and vision. After the runaway success of NEED YOU NOW (the album, title track and book), which coincided with her own moving story of brokenness and ultimately healing, Exhale brims with worshipful songs of gratitude and hope. The defining concept of EXHALE was born from a sermon at Plumb’s home church, wherein her pastor Pete Wilson expressed the notion that the Church doesn’t exist for itself. Rather, believers come to church to breathe in grace and truth, be changed, and then go out and “exhale” that hope into their surrounding community.“That idea of exhaling hope hit me right away and I couldn’t get to the Notes section on my phone fast enough. I started writing the chorus of Exhale right then and there,” explains Plumb. “I have been made new by the ultimate hope, and I want to share and exhale that hope in everyway I can.”

1 Girl Nation CD Review

About 1 Girl Nation

Landing in the space where One Direction meets TobyMac, 1 Girl Nation is an exciting blend of upbeat pop music, with lyrics that are totally focused on living life for God, even while you’re young. 1GN, as they’ve already been dubbed, stars Carmen, Kayli, Kelsey, Lauryn Taylor and Lindsey, five girls with a passion for telling their fans about Christ through their music. Their first single, “While We’re Young,” can be heard on radio stations across the country and their self-titled debut album is available now!

Even after reading the description above, I expected to hear something that I really couldn’t enjoy but I was pleasantly surprised.  1 Girl Nation has a sound that reminds me of a mixture of 80’s girl bands, modern day secular music, and a hint of contemporary Christian wrapped up in a praise and worship band.  As their pictures suggest, their music is fun and joyful.  With their primary target audience being pre-teen, teens, and young adults I think 1 Girl Nation should be on their way to the top!  I don’t think it will be long before they are being blasted all over Christian radio stations.  They sing songs that make you feel good but aren’t like the typical music you hear.  It wasn’t far into the CD before I was bobbing my head and enjoying the music.

The Answer

jeremy camp the answerJeremy Camp’s new album The Answer features some awesome new songs that you aren’t going to want to miss!  Word of Life is one of my favorites.  Too often we forget that the Word IS the answer and I feel like we can never be reminded enough that it IS.  Recently my life decided I needed that reminder, God decided it was time to pull me back.  My pain, anger and grief had pulled me to a dark place and as I was learning to cope and let go of my anger toward Him.  I’m so thankful that we serve a God that is our Father and remembers that we are but children.  Whatever your place is right now, I hope that you remember He is there, waiting for you to run back into His arms.  Oddly enough, the song Awake O Sleeper may be just the song to go with that sentiment!  And for the record, I did not do that on purpose, the tie in was a happy accident.

Jeremy’s album release date is October 6th, 2017.  If this is the type of music that lifts your spirits and reminds you to follow your Father you should definitely get yours now!  Jeremy Camp has a beautiful voice and the melodies from his new songs are just as fabulous as all of his other music before: uplifting and inspiring.  As for the album, I have to say I do not love the cover.  I’m not a fan of modern type stuff anyway but it just doesn’t look like him.  LOL.  I was surprised to see how he actually looks after seeing his actual picture.  On the album he almost looks Italian, but in reality he’s a blue eyed young man that seems to be embracing the hipster look.  haha.  Just a bit of my crazy for you, doesn’t change that he has a wonderful singing voice.  I’m guessing if you are a fan, you already knew what he looks like.  I was disappointed to find that his website doesn’t tell much about him or his band but I’m sure I could find it elsewhere.  Off to explore the interwebs!

Matthew West’s All In

Matthew West's All In Giveaway Ends 10/3

Mathew West’s new album will be officially released on September 22, 2017 and seems to have a bit of hype around it.  With his past success, I can see why people are looking forward to it.  They have already released the songs on YouTube and the videos are fairly decent.  I prefer when the video tells a story to seeing people sing, but there is a healthy mix and I can appreciate that.

My Thoughts on the Music

I love the background music in All In!  It speaks to my love for cultural music.  The lyrics are inspiring as would be expected from Matthew West.  The sound is very much contemporary Christian music at it’s best  and I can see it being played at camps and in churches for years to come.  Mercy is a Song is also one of his new ones and I challenge you to listen to it without tapping your foot or moving somehow to the song, it is very similar to Hello, My Name Is.  I think my favorite song on the album is Amen

Matthew’s heart behind the album:

Matthew wrote his new album All In with the goal of encouraging himself and others to get up off the sidelines of their faith and really live it out – to go all in in your time with God, all in with your family, all in with your community, and all in battling your fears that may hold you back from becoming who God made you to be. Along that same theme, Matthew will be launching a 6-week All in Challenge on his social media starting 9/18, and each week Matthew will be challenging his fans to go all in in a different part of their lives. What does it look like when a heart that knows Jesus takes a step and holds nothing back? How can we go All In in the places that mean the most?
