How To Throw An Epic Costume Party
Having a costume party is a blast! They aren’t just for Halloween. They make great birthday parties and pretty much any excuse to break up the monotony of life.
How to Throw an Epic
Costume Party
These days it seems like people have lost their creativity. So much is the same, always the ‘norm’. So, why not mix life up a bit and throw a Costume Party? They don’t have to be stressful, we can walk you through it!
Picking a theme can be the easiest part. What do you love? What do your friends love? For my friends and I, we’ll be doing a decade themed party. Well, a two decade theme: 80’s and 90’s. You can, of course choose anything you’d like! Just remember, the more general it is, the easier it will be to persuade your friends to get silly and dress up!
A costume party can be themed in almost anything. From children’s movies to horror movies, you could do a saints & scoundrels theme (good guys and bad guys of all kinds) or narrow it down to a more specific theme if you prefer.
Send Out Invitations
There are tons of free invitation templates out there, you could also create an event on a website and use the chat areas to gain excitement as your party approaches. If you want to get fancy, you can learn some ghoulish fonts from some of the calligraphy books, don’t worry the book linked in walks you through it and makes them so easy.
Party food is subjective. You can create food from scratch or buy the party platters. We have recipes that you may find useful. Also, if you are looking for a Halloween theme or things related, we’ve got an entire Halloween Party Planning post.
Choose Your Costume
Alright, this one is going to be fun! You can choose whatever you’d like and buy or make one. Pinterest is full of ideas to make your own. If you are looking to buy, I highly recommend TVStoreOnline, you can see one of my review of their Saved By the Bell Sweatshirt if you’d like.
Decorations.
Since you already know your theme, decorations should be super easy! Pick things that go along with that theme. You can pretty much find any themed decoration ideas on pinterest or amazon. I can get lost for hours looking through them both!
It’s easy to create a pin the ‘tail’ game on pretty much any theme. Just modify the tail to fit your party theme. Print out a super large depiction of whatever you want to pin stuff on and take it to your local office store to have it laminated. If you scroll down in our Disney Side Post, you can see the Olaf we had done. To be honest, my friends and I aren’t into games so much so we always end up talking anyway. Sorry I’m not much help on this one.
Prizes. Now we do love us some prizes. I love the Best Costume trophy for some reason. It just makes it a little more fun. You can also have some prize bags with your favorite treats for the top three winners. If your crowd is a little shy, do a voting box so no one has to feel pressured.
Music
Ahh, now that one’s definitely easy to pick once the theme is set! We’ll be playing lots of Prince and Michael Jackson at our 80’s and 90’s costume party! Make a playlist to keep your party moving of upbeat, happy tunes.
There are so many awesome costumes and TV/movie apparel on this site! I found a ton of perfect Christmas gifts.
