French Toast Recipe: DF Version Included

French toast is a favorite around here! We love enjoying it on the back porch with our early morning coffee! We’ve also got a list of toppings going and hope you’ll add your own suggestions in the comments!

French Toast Recipe: DF Version Included

Summer is full of time with the kiddos being out of school.  Gotta have something for them to eat for breakfast as it seems they insist on eating every single day *gasp*.

Good food doesn’t have to be difficult or extremely unhealthy and this French Toast Recipe is a big crowd pleaser, especially as the Chief doesn’t have to spend much time or effort to get it on the table!  It takes less than 15 minutes total, and that’s including the half asleep stumbling to remember to grab the other ingredients!

This is also a fantastic way to use stale bread! Cooking it this way gives it new life! Stale bread is also great for making croutons! We love those too!

French Toast Recipe: Dairy Free or full dairyFrench Toast

French Toast Recipe: DF Version IncludedIngredients:

3 lg eggs

3/4 c milk (we used silk in place of normal milk)

1 tbsp sugar

1/4 tsp vanilla

1/4 tsp salt

8 slices sandwich bread (could use french bread, sliced about 1 inch thick)

Directions:

  1.  Beat eggs, milk, sugar, salt and vanilla with wire whisk until well mixed then pour into a shallow bowl.
  2. Heat skillet over medium heat. Spray with vegetable oil  or cooking spray before heating)
  3. Dip bread into egg mixture and let soak a minute.  Cook 4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

Topping Suggestions:

syrup- We absolutely love maple syrup around here but you can also try out other types. I’m in an odd type of mood and am thinking skip the normal and try out homemade chocolate syrup but I haven’t tried them together yet!

honey

Fruits: blueberries, strawberries, bananas

Powdered Sugar

Thanks to our awesome reader who commented below her toppings! Sue E, you truly rock!  I don’t think I yet have the stomach to hype my grandkids up on ice cream for breakfast, but then maybe I will when they get a little older! haha

Hi all! My name is Kaycee. I am now learning to navigate life as a single woman. Turns out, it's not all about husband and children. Who knew? So, I'm on a journey of self discovery. I have 5 children, 3 of which are married, 5 2 are in Heaven (my beautiful baby Acadia Reign and my Diva Princess Tara Elizabeth), and 7 grandchildren! Plus, a ton of fabulous nieces and nephews! My educational background is in Psychology and Child Development but my heart is in ministry, crafts, fun, reviews and my website, My Crafty Zoo. Or at least it was, now I'm learning who I really am, beneath all of the busy family life. It's an adventure to be sure. I look forward to continuing to share my life through word and pictures with you and love hearing your feedback! Thank you for taking the time to read and allowing me to share! I look forward to reading your comments!

I’ve never put sugar in my french toast before but I do put cinnamon in it. It adds a warm flavor that is sooo good!

  • I make my French Toast like this. Sometimes, I add cinnamon instead of salt ? Then I top it off with whatever the grandkids want: powdered sugar, syrup, whipped cream or ice cream ?
    Great minds think alike ?
