Pizza Sauce: How to Make Superb Sauce From Scratch Or Not

Pizza Sauce is absolutely delicious when made well or it can completely ruin a meal. Due to our frequent family game nights and health preferences, I have slowly perfected an absolutely fantastic pizza sauce recipe!

Did you know February 9th is National Pizza Day, you can even go to Chicago for a Pizza Festival! There is also a National Pizza Month (October)! Who knew!?!

There are two things we all are always looking for: quick and easy meals! This recipe meets both standards and is much healthier than ordering takeout. You can even do like we do and have freezer ready toppings so that on busy nights all you have to do is pull them out of the freezer, thaw a bit and get going!

This recipe is also freeze ahead worthy!

Pizza Sauce: How to Make Superb Sauce From Scratch Or NotMade From Scratch Pizza Sauce

Ingredients
  • 1 Can of Tomato Sauce – 14.5 ounces (Note* Low sodium tastes EXACTLY the same!)
  • 1 Can of Tomato Paste – 6 ounces
  • 2 TBS oregano
  • 2 TBS Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½-1 tsp onion powder (adjust to your taste preferences, we use 1 tsp)
  • ½-1 tsp fennel seeds (these are absolutely not a requirement and you can adjust the amount as you prefer)
Directions
  1. Pour canned ingredients into medium sauce pan and add spices.
  2. Cook on medium low, stirring until well mixed and then occasionally to keep from burning, for about 5 to 7 minutes. You’ll know that it’s done when it reaches your desired consistency. If you  make it too thick, no worries, simply add a little bit of water and keep cooking!

Pizza Sauce: How to Make Superb Sauce From Scratch Or Not @Crafty_ZooHow to Modify Spaghetti Sauce

For those of you who have not tried our perfect spaghetti sauce, it’s a definite must! We like to make large batches then freeze them so that it doesn’t take long to have homemade spaghetti! The directions below work amazingly with it, but you can use them to modify any spaghetti sauce for pizza sauce. It’s a great use for leftover spaghetti sauce for sure!

Just remember that you are going to have to adjust the amounts to fit the spaghetti sauce.

Ingredients
  • Spaghetti Sauce (1 cup of sauce should be plenty for at least 2 pizzas)
  • 2 TBSP Tomato Paste
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • ½-1 tsp fennel seeds (these are still absolutely not a requirement and you can adjust the amount as you prefer)
Directions
  1. Pour spaghetti sauce into medium sauce pan, add tomato paste. Add spices, tasting as you go to ensure the best end result. You’ll be adjusting the spice amount to fit your spaghetti sauce.
  2. Cook on medium low, stirring until well mixed and then occasionally to keep from burning, for about 5 to 7 minutes. You’ll know that it’s done when it reaches your desired consistency. If you  make it too thick, no worries, simply add a little bit of water and keep cooking!

That looks really tasty! We never get takeout pizza unless it is from the NY style local place in town. I can’t stand the big chain pizza companies. I would rather eat Totinos lol. Thanks for the recipe! I pinned it!

I hope you enjoy it! I’m with you on the chain stuff, it’s definitely not quality! I feel like the prices reflect some sort of quality that they just never achieve!
