101 Amazing Uses: Essential Oils

101 Amazing Uses: Essential Oils is a fantastic little book and we hope you’ll love it too!

101 Amazing Uses: Essential OilsPlease know, my opinions are my own always. I’m far too hard headed to sell out my good name for anything and part of that good name is my honesty in my opinions. If ya don’t believe me, check out this review on Sabatier Knives, that one cost me a sponsor of multiple types of products that I greatly wish I could review. I knew that it would when I wrote it, but those stinkin’ ethics of mine wouldn’t allow me to simply not publish it.

Anyway…

Using essential oils is a big deal these days, which makes total sense given that they’ve been used since ancient times. It is so easy to find a ton of uses for them just by a quick search online, we’ve got a lot on our site as well that I’ve found and shared through my own essential oil journey. You can browse them by putting essential oils in the search box (that only searches this site).

Having mentioned the vast availability to find uses online, one may be tempted to not buy the books on essential oils. There was a time that I was that person. A dear friend of mine and her family of 5 uses essential oils almost exclusively for their health needs and swears by the book that she has. After contacting her repeatedly because I can’t find what I’m looking for online, my resolve to do google searches for everything has been lost.

Don’t get me wrong, I greatly hope you’ll continue to look on my site (and others) for the things we share, and intend to do the same, my thinking is I need more resources. Reminds me of writing research papers in college. We couldn’t use just one source or type of source for anything. There was a reason for that and I’m seeing the value.

On to the Book…

There are 4 chapters in the book and we’ll talk a little about each section so that you can have a good overview of them. The Introduction covers uses throughout history, how to store and use essential oils and are the essential oils safe. It’s a very good read with so much information.Originally, I was going to list all of the subject headings of the chapters, unfortunately as I flipped to the first chapter I realized this post would be far too long. So instead, I’ll do a rundown review of each chapter.

If you read the section above, you might be tempted to think that I did that on purpose due to what I’m about to say, let me assure you, the way I review books (especially like these) is I write my intro first then the review as I read. So, until I began reading I didn’t know that throughout the book, there are notations which can be referenced in the back so that you know where the author got her information. References. ha!

  1. 101 Amazing Uses: Essential OilsRescuing Physical Health
    • This chapter covers 53 different aspects of health including various infections, common health problems, and health challenges. Some of my favorites that seemed like they couldn’t go without mentioning are diabetes, weight loss, smoking cessation, IBS, oral health, nausea, headaches and I’m gonna stop listing there. There are many common issues in this section (like dealing with lice) along with many not so common issues (like pancreatic cancer). Even though I’ve been using essential oils for years, I’ve learned so much from this section and can’t wait to try out some of the new things I’ve learned for our health challenges!
  2. Restoring Mental and Emotional Well-Being
    • If you’ve seen any of my posts on depression, you know mental health is a big deal to me. Never mind my degree in psychology, depression and PTSD have a strong presence in our home so I’m always interested in these topics. This chapter covers anger, anxiety, concentration (gonna try those out for when I’m working and studying!), depression, meditation, passion, and stress. Though it doesn’t cover near as many topics as the health section it covers all of the general things one might need and I’m looking forward to trying them out.
  3. Reclaiming Beauty
    • This section covers 24 different topics including age spots, cellulite, chapped lips, deodorant, various hair/nail/skin treatments, perfume, scars, dental issues, sunburns, stretch marks and (obviously) plenty of other relevant subjects. I’m itching to get this done (which after typing that I was amused because that’s covered in the health section) to get this written so I can get started with the wrinkle one. I’ve got this wrinkle on the bridge of my nose from the face I make when I’m aggravated. It’s hidden by my glasses but it’s driving me crazy.
  4. Re-Conditioning Your Home
    • This chapter covers pest control (including fleas on dogs!)
    • Household Cleaning: covers bathrooms, burned cookware, cleaning power (‘recipes’ to make cleaning products), fridge and vacuums. While not covered in the section, I will add that if you are interested in making your own products, check out our post on How to Make Your Own Laundry Detergent. It’s much less toxic than store bought!
    • Odor control (carpets, pets, smoke, food, sports gear, trash bins and even paint fumes!

101 Amazing Uses for Essential Oils was written by Susan Branson and published through Familius. We love their books! One of my favorite things about the design of this book is that each chapter has what resembles a black tab so one can easily flip to the section they are searching for when in need of one of the fabulous sections.

We greatly enjoyed this book. It’s very well written and has proper, legitimate citations (which the former English major in me appreciates). It’s not too difficult for the average person to understand and utilize (also greatly appreciated) and there are indeed at the very least 101 uses for various essential oils!

This Book was Provided By Familius

101 Amazing Uses for Essential Oils was published and provided by Familius Publishing. Why do we love familius? I’ll give you two little reasons, among the many: they focus on a happy family life. So much so that the back of the book, in a small section in the corner, informs everyone that this particular book helps families play together and work together. How awesome is that?

We’ve also reviewed 15 Minute Mindful Meals and A Beginner’s Guide to Rag Quilting and Skinny Southern (I know, I didn’t believe that was possible either)  which were also published by Familius. They have some fantastic books and we can’t wait to bring you more!

If you are a parent, we also reviewed Dear Libby which answers questions pre-teens and teens ask everyday. Along with The Five Foundations of Successful Teens. Both of which are amazing books and do not disappoint. Familius does well at sticking by their motto!
