Faith of Our Fathers Review & Giveaway

Faith of Our Fathers DVD

About the movie:
John Paul and Wayne are two young men in search of their fathers.  Problem is…their fathers have been dead for 25 years.  Eddie and Steven are two young men in search of their sons…whom they’ve never met.  In 1969, Eddie and Steven are with their squad deep in the jungle of Vietnam on a five-day mission to retrieve fallen comrades.  They write letters to their wives, often mentioning their love for their sons, one, who is an infant and one yet to be born.  In 1994, John Paul and Wayne go on a five day road trip to the Vietnam Wall in Washington DC to see their fathers’ names.  Along the way, reading those letters, they begin to get an understanding of who their fathers were and how they died.  Trials and mishaps, both funny and sad, complicate the road trip for the boys.  The horrors of war and the testing of faith manifest themselves for the young men in Vietnam.  Ultimately, in parallel stories – 25 years apart – the fathers and sons are bound together forever.

Starring: Stephen Baldwin, Kevin Downes, David A.R. White, Rebecca St. James, Si Robertson, Candace Cameron Bure, Scott Whyte, and Sean McGowan.

My Thoughts

Faith of Our Fathers is a really great movie!  I sincerely enjoyed watching it!  I especially enjoyed the mishaps and craziness on their road trip, especially laughing at the comic relief brought by Si Robertson.  While Stephen Baldwin demonstrated his lack of ability to act, with some effort I was able to overlook him and get back into the story.  I sincerely feel like Baldwin took away from the story and overall film and wish they had chosen to go with a more talented actor.  The rest of the cast did a great job telling the story.  David A. R. White was amazing as Wayne, one of the two main characters.  I don’t think anyone could have played that role better!  Overall, I am glad I had the opportunity to watch this film.  I love that Christian films are getting better and better!

Sunshine Collective

Sunshine Collective

Sunshine Collective is a fun collection of happy music that simply makes you want to enjoy it.  Sunshine is definitely a good name, as it really does feel like you are listening to a little sunshine!  I’d definitely suggest this for Moms and daughters as it just seems to me music perfect for girl time on a beautiful day!  The various songs bring a smile to your face and warmth to your heart as it lifts you up one song at a time.  To quote the song Up to Something Good, ” the world needs a smile and it’s here”.     That definitely sums up this album.  Check it out today.  It will be your next go to happy music!

Sunshine Collective creates an intricate and sophisticated vocal/instrumental tapestry that defines each track as a true musical composition.  Arbuckle and Richards don’t pander to low expectations of children’s listening abilities by simply laying “kiddie lyrics” on top of a basic 3-chord musical structure. Recognizing that children are responsive to music that has sonic complexity and lyric depth, the team purposefully delivers a break from typical kids’ fare, keeping it fresh, cool, and “adult ear” friendly.

Up To Something Good has a roll-down-the-windows, flyin’ free feel, but its summertime sweetness isn’t sticky or syrupy; it’s refreshing as cold fruit at a hot picnic.  The album’s powerful instrumental ensemble flexes its muscles while never intruding on Stephanie Richards‘ vocal tone and style or her crystal clear delivery of the lyrics.  Her eminently ear-friendly voice serves up mod pop and jazz-tinged tunes just as deftly as pop-country, four-on-the-floor, head-for-the-sun numbers.

The title track is pure pop heaven:  bold, brassy, and pulsating with life as Richards’ powerhouse soprano soars over a complex orchestration in a manner reminiscent of ’60s stars like Martha Reeves or Diana Ross.  The album’s non-hackneyed lyric landscape is best exemplified by the poetic poignancy of “Waiting To Say Hello Again,” a gently country waltz that explores how childhood often copes with parting.

Before launching Sunshine Collective, Brian Arbuckle and Stephanie Richards had an R&R pop chart hit with Stephanie’s debut single, “Get Use To It.”  Arbuckle’s orchestral compositions can be heard on trailers for Benchwarmers, Catwoman, and Spider, among others, as well as network promos for shows like Cold Case, Big Bang Theory, and 60 Minutes. He has mixed music for Sprout, Disney, Disney XD, and Nickelodeon, and he is currently in music production for a new Simpsons promo campaign.

Update Your Space with Latest Bedding Home Decor

Latest Bedding Home Decor

Latest Bedding Home Decor made such a drastic difference in our bedroom décor! I can’t say enough about how much I love the Cruz 3 Piece Reversible Quilt Set that I got from them! Not only is it the perfect weight (it’s a light comforter), it also is so gorgeous that it completely changed the look and feel of our bedroom!

Beach Bedroom Decor

Our beach themed bedroom needed a pick me up. I searched forever for a comforter I could afford (or was willing to pay) to find a set for our bedroom and ended up giving up and settling. I hate the one I settled for. It didn’t make the statement I wanted.

Enter the Cruz Collection! It completely set the vibe I was going for in our room. The master bedroom is our Oasis. It needed to be a place we could relax and feel at peace. This is the sole reason we chose a beach theme! We even had an outdoor porch light installed to make the feel more realistic. We wanted to feel like we were on a beach, or as close as we could get to it!

Beach Wall Art

The Cruz set really brought the room together. It also brightened it up quite a bit! If you are in the market to fix up your beach bedroom, this is definitely one to consider. They also have a lot of other designs, especially quilt sets! I love their rustic bedding collection as well!

Rustic Bedroom Decor

In addition to bedding, they have a fabulous collection of other home décor! I’m definitely going to be updating my bathroom from their collection of shower curtains and bathroom décor next! Latest Bedding Home Decor has knocked having a great selection out of the park!

When you are ready to liven up your décor, keep Latest Bedding Home Decor on your list. You’ll be glad you pinned this!

Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 3 #GalaxyBuck Review #FlyBy

Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector Three! My Thoughts:

What an adorable film for the little ones!  From the creator of VeggieTales Phil Vischer comes Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9!  It is an adorable little film with an all puppet cast who embark on quite an adventure and learn some very valuable lessons!  Vischer teaches some very special things about God’s love and purpose for our lives and my favorite thing he teaches with this film is that we can all do something for God, even if we aren’t super heroes because God loves us.  He even tells us how to know if we are doing that.  Myself and many other adults I know could certainly benefit from this little reminder!

Kids will enjoy Buck Denver’s latest adventure with his friends from What’s In the Bible? and parents will appreciate the humorous nods to Star Wars and Star Trek.  Galaxy Buck communicates important Biblical truths that will add to everyone’s faith foundation, whether a life-long Christian or a new creation in Christ.

About the movie:
Buck Denver has a simple dream – to save the galaxy.  Working for the Galactic Mission Board, Buck dreams of carrying God’s love to every corner of the Milky Way!  Except he doesn’t have a starship.  Or a crew.  Or even a captain’s license.  He just needs a chance.  But when that chance comes and Buck finds himself leading a real mission into deep space, things don’t go at ALL like he imagined!  If he’s doing what God wants him to do, why is everything going wrong?  From VeggieTales® and What’s in the Bible? creator Phil Vischer, Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9 is a wild, galactic adventure that teaches kids a powerful lesson about trusting God with everything – even our dreams!

How Do You Like Your Eggs? Eggtastic #Giveaway Ends 10/19

eggtasticEggs are probably one of the most popular breakfast item in history.  If you are from the country (or somewhere close) you can probably even find fresh eggs locally.  When I was young, my Great Grandfather owned chicken houses and I remember riding through collecting eggs as a child.  Nothing reeks quite as bad as a chicken house, but those eggs fresh are fabulous.

As an adult, having the time to cook eggs for breakfast has taken a distant back seat to needing to get my coffee fix.  Becoming a mother will reduce that even further.  Though as a mother, it is also very important that I maintain begin (let’s just be honest) good nutrition.  I am excited that the Eggtastic is going to help me with that, I can have an omelet in less than 3 minutes!  That is fabulous!Eggtastic Review & GiveawaySo I know there is a fun little infomercial that we are all super excited to see, but we also know that those infomercials don’t often give the results they are intended to.  Let’s face it, they call it TV magic for a reason!  However, after having had the pleasure of trying it out, I’m actually convinced.  While my omelet didn’t turn out as pretty as the ones on the video, it tasted fabulous.  I made mine with homemade salsa and I definitely plan to do so again!  In literally a minute and a half, I had breakfast while my coffee was still brewing!

Gadget Grab #Giveaway Ends 10/19

gadgetgrabWith all of the awesome apps, it seems our portable devices have become more of a norm than a rarity.  Even our toddlers can be seen holding a tablet or phone, playing games or watching movies.  Seems life is more about virtual ‘reality’ than actually living life.  At any rate, that’s another post so for right now we’ll go with it.  LOL.

Stands for phones and tablets have become very popular, as we want to be able to put them on the nightstand or desk or wherever without having to hold them up and use for various reasons.  Personally, I’m a Netflix addict and I use my phone as my alarm, like so many others do these days.

While many cases have stands, there are many super cute cases that I loved that I’ve turned down because they didn’t have stands.  The Gadget Grab makes it easy to have a stand anywhere.  One of the great things is that it not only will stick to and hold your gadget the way you angle it (within limitations of course), it will also hold stable to the surface you stick it to.  That means if you are a mom on the go, you can stick it wherever you need it to stay while you jog behind the stroller, cruise through on errands or even on to the shopping cart while shopping.  Keep the little ones entertained or hold your tunes where you want them all without you having to worry about your gadget falling or your toddler tossing it to the ground.

The only thing I have found thus far is that the green part that holds the gadget is super strong, which means if you do like I did and skip over the directions, you’ll regret it.  It stuck so well to my tablet, even after carrying it around by the gadget, that I had a hard time getting it off.  When they say it holds, they mean it.  The directions, of course, tell you to press the green part to a nonporous surface before use.  Doing that will help your Gadget Grab hold but not stick too much.  This is important, if you don’t remember anything else before using this project, remember this!

After sticking the Gadget Grab to a nonporous surface, I couldn’t get it to stick to my phone.  Unfortunately, that renders this product unusable.  Perhaps you’ll have better luck, perhaps you won’t.  One way or the other, I can’t in good conscience suggest this product as I feel it is a waste of money.  I’m hugely disappointed as I had very high hopes for this product.

Dev & Ollie

Devon
Dev has just unwrapped his favourite birthday present…a cool new kite! But there’s a
problem. He doesn’t know how to fly it! Grandpa claims to be an expert and promises
to teach Dev tomorrow but Dev is too impatient.
Ollie, Dev’s magical bedtime owl, comes to the rescue. Together they set off on an
action packed journey to one of the largest kite festivals in the world in Gujarat,
India.
The pleasure of kite flying doesn’t come easy though. Along the way, he encounters a
couple of mishaps and a few bumps on the head. To his surprise, Dev has to work hard
to get his hands on a kite and learn the skill of kite flying.

Finally, fighting through all the hurdles, Dev emerges victorious. When he returns
back home in the morning, he beats Grandpa at his own game!

Dev and Ollie books can be enjoyed by children aged 4+ from any background. They are a truly unique combination of festival experiences, hilarious adventures, and ‘virtual’ sightseeing in India. What’s more, all this is beautifully wrapped around the magical relationship of a child and his bedtime cuddly toy.

My Thoughts

Full of color, wonder and adventure even my 8 month old enjoyed the pictures as I read the story to her!  I greatly enjoyed the imagination in the story as well as the little tidbits of kite knowledge dropped throughout the book.

The book is full of brightly colored, well drawn pictures giving the eyes plenty to keep them busy!  Even my 6

month old was fascinated with the pictures!

I will be giving away 1 copies to 2 lucky winners!!!

About the Author

author

I created Dev and Ollie following a ‘light bulb’ moment at
a festival in Watford, England.
Indian by origin and having grown up in Japan, I now live
in England with my family. My upbringing has been that
of a global citizen. And after having children, I am keen
for my children to be global citizens while also to be
proud of their own culture and heritage.
As a mother of two young children and a British Indian,
I’m forever exploring ways to impart cultural knowledge
to them. Also, my children are avid readers and adding
variety to their bookshelf is something I actively work on.
My mission is for children not just to be reading well, but
to be well read. Realising that this can be easily
achieved if children can relate to the characters in a
book, Dev and Ollie were created – Dev, a cheeky,
curious and sometimes clumsy boy and Ollie his magical
bedtime cuddly owl.
What sparked their conception was an Indian cultural festival experience in England. Festivals
evoke the best of any culture! Colour, noise, excitement, family, laughter – all are perfect
ingredients for children’s stories with a universal appeal.
During my time in India from 1995 to 1999 for my undergraduate degree in computer science, I
traveled extensively within India. That’s when I experienced an array of amazing festivals.
Kite Crazy is about one such experience. One of my most cherished memories is the annual
kite festival in Gujarat, India…flying kites on the rooftop with cousins from dawn till dusk. Food,
drinks, piles of kites, everything would be planned for. We’d fight to have a go (because we had
fewer kites remaining than the number of cousins!). Then seconds later, we’d be ganging up
and competing against others on neighbouring roof terraces.
I’m working on many more Dev and Ollie books to be released soon, not just about festivals in
India, but unique festivals around the world that haven’t been discovered on an international
level…festivals that children will love to read about! In fact, I’ve had tremendous fun researching
such festivals, so much so that my bucket list now includes some of them (Tomatina Festival in
Spain and Snow & Ice Festival in China)!
