Rufus & Ryan Go to Church

IM_4586I love the age where I can sit and read a book to the little ones and they listen intently, then go back and try to read it on their own.  Adding in questions and commentary throughout the book, always great fun!  We really enjoyed reading Rufus and Ryan Go To Church!  It was super cute!  The book is perfect for new readers as there aren’t many words per page so there is a lot of room for conversing.

Rufus and Ryan Go To Church!

In Rufus and Ryan Go to Church!, four-year-old Ryan explains to his stuffed monkey, Rufus, what is happening as they attend church on Sunday morning. He lets Rufus know when it’s time to sing and to pray and to be quiet. Author Kathleen Bostrom brings a delightfully light touch to the text as she provides an introduction to an experience that most children are exposed to long before they understand why. And children everywhere will relate to the idea of explaining their surroundings to their favorite companions as they go about their daily activities.

This is just one of the first titles in a new series of inspirational books for preschoolers.

About the Rufus and Ryan

Rufus

Rufus and Ryan is a new series of books for preschoolers, featuring Ryan, an energetic little boy, and his stuffed monkey Rufus. Basic Christian and church concepts serve as the foundation of the series, with an additional focus on character traits and development. The text is presented in young Ryan’s voice as he teaches Rufus about the concepts he is learning himself. Each story is about 150 words, using age-appropriate vocabulary and themes.

Let’s Hatch Chicks: A Review You Can’t Miss

Let’s Hatch Chicks is an adorable and informative book about ‘the Wonderful World of Chickens and Eggs’.  This is the perfect Spring or anytime book! Lisa Steel does a wonderful job helping kids understand raising, caring for, and hatching chicks.

My own adorable (and there is absolutely no bias here) niece now has her own little chicks and is loving them so much!  This delightful little book will no doubt be very helpful for her, and I look forward to the time when she decides she is the little chicken expert and starts schooling my Dad.  Haha.  For disclosures sake, if there is any way you don’t believe that said niece is adorable the pictures included in this review will definitely squash those doubts.  If it doesn’t, one may need to check their vision.  Haha!  But seriously….  Okay, we’ll move on…A Childrens Book Review You Cant Miss

Let’s Hatch Chicks

One of my favorite parts of Let’s Hatch Chicks is the day by day growth and development explanation of their entire lives, from embryo to hatch day!  Even having grown up on a farm with chickens, there is still so much learned in this little book!  There is even a glossary in the back!  Violet, our sweet chicken guide, takes us through all we need to know with wonderful illustrations drawn by Perry Taylor.

Get Your Copy Here

One could easily utilize this book to do lessons, whether homeschooled or not.  My brain came up with so many cute lesson plans with this one!  I love that so many things can be used to educate our children!  This girl truly feels that there are lessons in everything, and that teaching them is essential to the success of our children.  I included lessons for you to use in my review of Don’t Ever Look Behind Door 32 but I’ll let you come up with your own on this one.  Seriously toying with the idea of creating little lessons to go along with these adorable books!   Perhaps that project will come to fruition one day.  Anyone interested?

Be sure and check out my post on How to Boost Your Child’s Learning, it’s got some well tested advice!

Block Party: Awesome Music For Kids @poochamungas

Block Party! Who’s ready? Partying with the Poochamungas is nothing but fun! Get everyone moving and grooving and party on!Poochamungas Block Party!

Poochamungas – Block Party! is a fantastic album for the kids.  Releasing October 8, 2013, Block Party is a collection of fun little songs that get ya moving to the rock beat.  The songs are cute and catchy and smiles tend to sneak up on you when you aren’t expecting them.

I’m warning ya though, you may find yourself being goofy too as you let the kids jam out to the music!  Listening to the songs you can see that they were once kids who loved rock and roll.  Not the head banging stuff, the genre of classic rock, the good stuff that I heard growing up.

About the Poochamungas

Taken From Their Website

Born out of the Old Town School of Folk Music then fledgling musician John Joyce went to take some harmonica classes and ended up taking a bunch of guitar lessons. After meeting a bunch of interested musicians(Don, Alton and Pete), mastering 3 chords, writing some lyrics that amused his daughter, a father/ son drummer exchange and finally forming a band!

The Poochamungas went on to record Mud, Mommies and Mayhem in 2010 which won a NAPPA Award and played a bunch of gigs (block parties to festivals) the next few years. They have finished their follow up CD titled Block Party (to be released September 2013).

Musically diverse rockin’ angst free music is their goal at every show. The Poochamungas believe that good music should know no age and they rock out for audiences big and small. Singing, dancing and general silliness is the rule of the day when this band comes to play!

Mymo’s Adventures Review

My Awkward yet Entertaining Intro

I have to say, the part I hate the most is starting the post.  I dread it.  I really do.  They always end up starting the same: ‘hello everyone’ ‘hey everyone’ etc.  It gets old writing it, surely you get tired of hearing the same greeting and beginning, assuming you read them.  You do, right?  You read them?  If for no other reason than to humor me???  LOL.  Of course you do, I couldn’t bear imagining otherwise!  😛  Well, on with it.  I’ve successfully skipped the boring, stereotypical review introduction.  Let’s call this experiment a success and move on!  😀  I’m going to note here that I’m very pleased with myself.

My Thoughts on Mymo’s Adventures
Have you heard of My Gym’s Mymo’s Adventures?  It is an adorable video to help you get your little ones exercising.  Utilizing puppets, animation and other kids your kids will get a great workout.  This works for you on two levels: 1. they get exercise and 2. they get some of that amazing energy out of their little systems!  It’s the next best thing to them sharing it!  LOL.  Through six great chapters your kids will be encouraged to get their bodies moving and their imaginations rolling.
There are fun little workouts where they teach the kids to do various exercises in a fun and very imaginative way.  I haven’t seen anything quite like it.  There are also fun little game segments and some parts that help the kids take trips in their little minds all from the safety of your livingroom using household things to encourage their creative growth such as a laundry basket boat with a broom oar!  I love that!  All the while, they are staying active physically and mentally without tearing down the house!
A little more about My Gym
My Gym opened in 1983 leading fitness for children in over 260 locations worldwide including US, Canada, China, France, Brazil and others.  They help children from 6 weeks old to 13 years old develop the necessary skills to become healthy young adults.  They even have a My Gym show called ‘My Gym at Home’ that airs on BabyFirst TV so you can get a taste of their workouts.  I really think the little ones will enjoy it!

Top Ten Children’s Books From E. L. Adams

This top 10 was brought to you by author E. L. Adams.
Top Ten Children’s Books
1.      Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne – a classic from my childhood, and the first book I remember my parents reading aloud to me.
2.       The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame – another classic. I loved the TV show, too.
3.       The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson – I was quite a bit older when this came out, but it’s the sort of thing I’d have adored when I was little. It’s a really clever story with a great rhyme scheme – great for reading aloud!
4.      The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling – goes without saying, really!
5.      Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll – Carroll is a genius. A mad genius, admittedly, but the Alice books are fantastic.
6.      Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the BFG, Matilda…pretty much all of Roald Dahl’s books!
7.      Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney – these books are hilarious. They’re cleverly illustrated with appeal to kids of all ages, and I’m unashamed to say I enjoy them even at the age of 21!
8.      How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell
9.      The Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan
10.  The Cat in the Hat by Dr Seuss – another classic!
The Puppet Spell

Unlike her rebellious sister Lucinda, fifteen-year-old Lexa prefers to spend her free time playing video games, fighting the forces of evil with her partner-in-crime Marlon. But when Lucinda steals an invisibility potion from their uncle’s storeroom, she unleashes chaos into their lives. Lexa and Marlon find themselves catapulted into a world far more dangerous than any video game, full of misleading illusions, sinister Conjurors and deadly Fey, and threatened by a man with a grudge known as the Puppeteer. Accompanied only by Lexa’s uncle’s unreliable (and rather dangerous) Chimera, Lexa and Marlon must navigate this world to find Lucinda- before they too fall under the spell of the puppet master…

Author E.L. Adams

Emma is a 21-year-old author from Birmingham, UK. When she isn’t reading voraciously, studying, or taking every opportunity to travel, she can be found in front of her writing desk.

Having aspired to be a writer since the age of ten, Emma aims to give life to her (admittedly bizarre) daydreams, through creating weird and wonderful alternative worlds. Her debut novel THE PUPPET SPELL, published in January 2013 by Rowanvale Books, is a fantasy tale for young adults and the young at heart, inspired by her lifelong love of traditional fantasy, mythology, and video games.

When not living the crazy life of an English Literature with Creative Writing student at Lancaster University, Emma reluctantly resides in the attic in her parents’ house in Birmingham. Local rumour is that she is working on a dark fantasy series for mature young adults featuring demons and other assorted night terrors.
